- ➤ Volunteers from Beau Rivage and Biloxi Shuckers joined together for an Earth Day beach cleanup in Biloxi with nearly 100 participants helping remove about 250 pounds of trash. Team members also invited friends and family to help—making the event a family friendly celebration of community care. WXXV 25
- ➤ On May 1, National Day of Prayer will be observed at local venues including Biloxi City Hall’s 2nd Floor Council Room at 1 p.m. Other ceremonies are set for Moss Point City Hall, Ocean Springs High football stadium, Gautier City Hall, Barksdale Pavillion, Long Beach City Hall, and the Jackson County Court House in Pascagoula—community members are welcome to attend. - ➤ Mississippi Aquarium will release 9 rehabilitated Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles on April 28 at 4 p.m. on Biloxi Beach in front of Edgewater Mall—crew will be on site to answer questions and provide biofacts for those in attendance. WXXV 25
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Southern Mississippi and the Gulf Coast Business Council signed an MOU on April 24 to launch the Executive Leadership Academy—an initiative offering over 60 hours of face-to-face instruction over a nine-month period on the Southern Miss Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. Planning for the inaugural cohort will begin this summer with flexible tuition and scholarship options for eligible participants. Gazebo Gazette

- ➤ Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann warned the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that opening the Bonnet Carré Spillway amid rising Mississippi River levels would harm our coastal ecosystem — affecting marine life, the seafood industry, and local tourism. He urged the Corps to consider alternatives like using the Morganza Spillway and timed reservoir releases instead — steps he said could help avert further damage while he prepares legal action. - ➤ Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signed HB 1077, banning synthetic kratom products and limiting sales to those 21 and older — the law will go into effect on July 1 as lawmakers aim to reduce health risks while keeping natural kratom available for some users. SuperTalk Mississippi Media
- ➤ Biloxi is extending Popps Ferry Road from Pass Road to Highway 90 in a $27 million project that will add a new four-lane road west of the Coliseum ending at Oakmont Place.
