GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann warned the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that opening the Bonnet Carré Spillway amid rising Mississippi River levels would harm our coastal ecosystem — affecting marine life, the seafood industry, and local tourism. He urged the Corps to consider alternatives like using the Morganza Spillway and timed reservoir releases instead — steps he said could help avert further damage while he prepares legal action.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signed HB 1077, banning synthetic kratom products and limiting sales to those 21 and older — the law will go into effect on July 1 as lawmakers aim to reduce health risks while keeping natural kratom available for some users.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • Biloxi is extending Popps Ferry Road from Pass Road to Highway 90 in a $27 million project that will add a new four-lane road west of the Coliseum ending at Oakmont Place. The project will include an entrance to the Coliseum grounds and require unique engineering as it crosses parking garage property, and it is expected to be completed by late 2026.  WXXV 25
  • Mississippi residents must get a REAL ID by May 7 to fly or enter federal facilities—most already have valid licenses if issued in the past seven years. Check your driver’s license for a white star inside a yellow circle to confirm compliance.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
