COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Mississippi Aquarium in Gulfport will hold its annual Otter Trotter event on November 26—just before Thanksgiving—to showcase lively otter displays for local families.  WXXV 25
  • On Wednesday, thirty-five first responders from Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson counties were honored at the IP Casino—organizers noted that over 1,000 applications were received for this award. Saints legend Devery Henderson presented the awards to police, firefighters, EMTs, and others for their service and bravery.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Furloughed workers returned to South Mississippi federal and military facilities after the shutdown ended Thursday. The Armed Forces Retirement Home welcomed them back (as employees resumed work at Keesler Air Force Base and the Naval Construction Battalion Center) and marked a return to normal operations.  WXXV 25
  • Following USDA guidance, MDHS is issuing full November SNAP benefits as soon as possible for clients with issuance dates from November 4th to 13th, and those with dates from November 14th to 21st will get their benefits on schedule — December benefits are expected to be issued on time.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs won 45—24 in the semifinals and will board buses to Wenatobia to face Northwest Mississippi Community College in the MACCC Championship game Saturday, November 15th at 2:00 p.m. The team plans to build on their strong performance as they prepare for this key contest.  WXXV 25
  • Senior captain Avery Lofton led the undefeated Lady Indian soccer team that outscored opponents 29 to 7 over six games—she tallied 8 goals and 9 assists this season and will continue her career at Holmes Community College after her time at Biloxi.  WXXV 25
  • Six Gulfport Admirals have signed with colleges to continue their baseball & softball careers. Baseball players Taevion Collier and Brant Roundsaville signed with Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Thomas Stennis & Lady Admiral outfielder Juliana Espat signed with Meridian Community College, while softball players Marleigh Lowe & Georgia Emmer signed with Lurleen B. Wallace and Coastal Alabama.  WXXV 25
  • Gulfport High School hosted signing days at Bert Jenkins Gymnasium as senior volleyball players Lily Trosclair and Lucy McHugh signed with Jackson State Community College and Jones College. Trosclair had over 1,000 assists—and McHugh recorded over 500 kills as they look forward to continuing their careers on the court.  WXXV 25
