COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Harrison County safety agencies and donors are hosting Feed the Needy to deliver Thanksgiving meals to homes that might otherwise go without. Residents in need can request a meal by calling any county law enforcement agency before November 21 at 4 p.m.—the program aims to help everyone enjoy the holiday meal.  WXXV 25
  • Our Lady Academy will hold a White Table Ceremony on November 11 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to honor veterans and others who have served — Ava and Aubrey shared the event details.  WXXV 25
  • Joel Lawhead announced that the Gulf Coast Veteran Association’s 5K Walk and Run will take place Saturday, November 8 at War Memorial Park + the event will be held alongside the association’s parade to honor veterans.  WXXV 25

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chad Leitenberger, his fiancé April, and daughter Shanice spent a year and a half turning a Pass Road space into the Adventurer’s Tavern. The venue will open November 7 from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m.—it will offer board games, a full bar, and food like gourmet PB and J sandwiches and a signature cocktail known as Goblin’s Blood.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Families enjoyed a glow-filled dance party as DSFA hosted the Butterfly Ball at Pine Hills Nursery in DeLisle on November 1st—featuring live student performances, music, and sweet treats—and proceeds from the event supported future arts programs.  Gazebo Gazette
  • Ocean Springs is getting ready to host the 47th annual Peter Anderson Festival on November 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—over 100,000 visitors along with 400 artists and vendors are expected to boost local business and celebrate coastal arts.  WXXV 25

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Amtrak passenger service has returned with the Mardi Gras Service running from New Orleans to Mobile with four stops along the Coast, and Kay Cox—of Kay’s Travel in Ocean Springs—said locals are excited about the tourism boost the route will bring. Communities along the Coast expect more visitors as the service continues.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Southern Miss has appointed Dr. Gregory Bradley as executive director and Houston Ernst as associate director of its Executive Education program at the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. The new leadership will boost customized training programs and forge partnerships to meet growing workforce needs along the Gulf Coast.  Gazebo Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Singing River Hospice of Light hosted a remembrance ceremony at Singing River Gulfport Hospital to mark National Hospice Month—families planted live trees and embedded framed pictures into the soil to honor loved ones. A second planting ceremony will be held Tuesday, November 18 in Pascagoula.  WXXV 25

  • Bay High School girls soccer coach Colby Adams led the Lady Tigers to their first state championship and was named Girls Soccer Coach of the Year by the MHSAA and NFHS — he focuses on individual character development to help his players succeed on and off the field.  WXXV 25
