- ➤ Harrison County Fire Rescue rescued Rascal—a dog who fell into a 20-foot well while a homeowner was remodeling—by breaking up the floor with a sheet of plywood to stop debris and, after nearly an hour and some treats, reunited him with his family. WXXV 25

- ➤ The Biloxi Visitors Center invites local artists to create original artwork featuring the Biloxi Lighthouse with a festive Christmas theme for the 2025 Biloxi Christmas T-shirt Art Contest—submissions are due Saturday, Nov.1 and the winner will be announced Friday, Nov.7. Gazebo Gazette
- ➤ Biloxi residents can look forward to the second annual Smokin’ the Coast event on Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1 at Harrah’s Great Lawn—Daniel Damico and Madison Rosonet shared the details. WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Two schools from the Pass Christian Public School District were honored on October 27 by the Lieutenant Governor’s Office for high attendance rates — Pass Christian Elementary and Middle Schools joined 130 Mississippi schools recognized for keeping chronic absenteeism below 15%. Gazebo Gazette

- ➤ Residents in Biloxi are reminded to change their clocks at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 as daylight saving time ends—giving them an extra hour of sleep. - ➤ The Mississippi Insurance Department Fire Services Division has been awarded a $500K grant from FEMA to install 40,000 free smoke alarms—local firefighters and volunteers will install them and provide fire safety education including home escape planning to help residents stay safe. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Biloxi Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration held a Drug Take Back Day over the weekend to help residents dispose of old medications. Officials collected about 308 pounds of expired drugs—these were turned over to the DEA for safe destruction. WXXV 25
- ➤ Singing River Health System’s Colorectal Program earned national accreditation from the American College of Surgeons for rectal cancer, with Dr. Ramon Brown leading the program—making it the only health system in Mississippi to achieve this honor and him the only accredited colorectal surgeon in the state. The program now serves as an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, showing a commitment to continuous quality improvement. WXXV 25

- ➤ The Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs lost 3—0 to Jones County Junior College on Monday evening. The Bulldogs, a nationally ranked top team in the MACCC, will try to bounce back in their playoff run later this week. WXXV 25
- ➤ Bart Edmiston, a punter at University of Wyoming and an Ocean Springs alum, was named to the Ray Guy Award watchlist—an honor given to college football’s top punter—and earned a spot on Ray’s Eight on Monday after averaging over 50 yards per punt in the team's shutout win over Colorado State on Saturday.
