COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Family, friends, and coworkers attended the funeral for Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Brashears early Wednesday as a large procession traveled to Shiloh Cemetery in Vancleave—he was honored for his dedication in service and remembered as a valued member of the sheriff’s department—leaving a lasting mark on the community.  WXXV 25
  • Staff at the Donal Snyder Community Center announced the pool is closed until further notice—its sand filter malfunctioned—and they are working on repair options while promising to update the public soon.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hancock graduate Emilee Swilley—a Pearl River sophomore—was crowned homecoming queen for the PRCC school year today before a game against Hinds Community College.  WXXV 25

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Oyster season is a little over a week in and local fishermen bring their daily harvest to Pass Christian Harbor. Early signs show that oyster reefs in the western Mississippi Sound are making a comeback — director Ryan Bradley of Mississippi Commercial Fisheries Limited reported the improvement.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ingalls Shipbuilding authenticated the keel of Guided Missile Destroyer Thad Cochran DDG 135 in Pascagoula to mark the Navy's next generation of surface combatants and honor the late Navy veteran and former senator. The ceremony included shipbuilders and Cochran’s wife, Kay Webber Bowen Cochran—who welded her initials on a steel plate to confirm the keel's laying.  WXXV 25

HEALTH NEWS

  • Brighton is a 3-year-old from Long Beach with Leigh Syndrome who needs a wheelchair accessible van for safe travel. Her parents are using GoFundMe and plan to buy a van for just over $30,000—much less than the usual cost—to help her enjoy life and visit Disney World for her upcoming fourth birthday.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Mississippi Gulf Coast will host the 2026 USA Triathlon Collegiate Club National Championship from March 27-29 with races in swimming, biking and running set on scenic courses. CLASH Endurance said the event will draw top collegiate clubs and international athletes as Gulfport and Biloxi offer plenty of accommodations (from budget to luxury) to support visitors.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • Two volleyball players earned MVP honors after their teams won state championships last Thursday—Alden St. Amant of Ocean Springs recorded 15 digs in victory over Madison Central while Myah Favre of Our Lady Academy posted 24 kills with a .657 hitting percentage. Their standout performances helped secure Ocean Springs' first state title and marked Favre's fourth consecutive championship win.  WXXV 25
  • Biloxi resident Apryl Handy recently competed at the UCI Gran Fondo World Championship in Australia and now shares her adventure—she explains how residents can join the Gulf Coast Bicycle Club.  WXXV 25
