COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Pascagoula River Audubon Center is celebrating its tenth anniversary and is offering free admission through December 15 — rentals and programs are not included. The center marks a decade of service to local visitors and invites them to explore its exhibits.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mark Burr of the Secret Coast Poetry Society won a $2,000 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission—he will use the funds to produce a community literary magazine. He is a four-time grant recipient—he said the magazine will give local writers a free space to share their work.  Gazebo Gazette
  • Biloxi will host the annual Gulf Coast Equality Fest this Saturday, October 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Great Lawn at Harrah’s Gulf Coast — entry is free for all.  WXXV 25

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Kaila Moran Griffith from Mississippi Power shared energy saving tips for the fall season and described programs that customers can take advantage of — advice that may help lower energy costs for residents. The company plans to update residents with more details as the season continues.  WXXV 25
  • Today at 10 a.m., the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies will release three rehabilitated sea turtles into the Mississippi Sound from Biloxi Beach across from the Edgewater Mall—if you cannot attend, you can watch the event live on the IMMS Facebook page.  WXXV 25
  • Scientists from Mississippi State’s Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture and Audubon Delta are tracking black skimmers and least terns along the Mississippi coast to support future conservation and land management efforts. They use GPS and radio tags to record bird movements and will analyze the data to guide habitat protection plans — the project aims to improve coastal resilience.  Gazebo Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mississippi Department of Employment Security was awarded a $5.7 million federal grant to support shipbuilding skills training for workers at major employers like Ingalls Shipbuilding, Bollinger Shipyards, and United States Marine, Inc.—with programs aimed at filling 2,500 new job openings each year.  Gazebo Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Keesler’s Emergency Department resumed normal operations today at 6 a.m. after a water line break caused a temporary closure—returning inpatient services except labor and delivery and resuming outpatient hours. Keesler Women’s Health is providing updates and those with concerns should call 228-376-0422 option 3.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational ended Monday with more than 80 golfers from 14 college teams competing in Sauciuer—LSU and Alabama tied as team champions at 32-under while LSU’s Arni Sveinsson won individual honors.  WXXV 25
  • On Oct 17, the Pass High Pirates made history with a 49-0 shutout win over Moss Point—earning their first region title as head coach Jeff Stockstill praised the team's commitment, and the Pirates will face West Marion on Oct 24 for Senior Night before ending the regular season against Bay High on Oct 30.  Gazebo Gazette
