COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The East Biloxi Senior Center will host a Craft Fair on Friday, October 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—all proceeds support senior center programs.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Kollin Napier at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College said the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network offers college students new ways to study and work with artificial intelligence. He noted that Mississippi is ahead of most states in using AI for learning and future jobs—providing promising paths for students.  WXXV 25
  • Jake Winter from Coast Episcopal School said that the Toast to the Coast-Diamond Jubilee event will be held Friday, October 17 at 845 East Scenic Drive — the patron party starts at 6 p.m. and the main event begins at 7 p.m.  WXXV 25

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality announced that water contact advisories are lifted at Gulfport West Beach and Biloxi East Central Beach—water tests show safe bacteria levels, while an advisory remains in effect for East Courthouse Road Beach.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The State Department of Revenue warns Biloxi taxpayers that phishing scams are targeting them via text messages that appear to come from the department or the DMV and ask for payment information—residents should delete any such texts without clicking on links.  WXXV 25
  • Mississippians can adjust their Medicare health or prescription coverage during open enrollment that starts today and runs until Dec. 7 — if carriers update their plans or exit certain areas, a special enrollment period is available. The Insurance Department urges beneficiaries to work only with state-licensed agents to avoid scams.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Coastal Family Health Center will host a Women’s Health Day this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its Division Street facility in Biloxi—checkups will be offered for women at a reduced price.  WXXV 25

  • Jackson County Animal Shelter named Zayuh as this week’s Pet of the Week on Tuesday (the pet now needs a forever home).  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pass Christian Pirates beat FCAHS Aggies 36-8 on October 10th at Francis S. McDonald Stadium as quarterback Paris Trivillion threw 304 yards and three touchdowns — the win raised their record to 6-1. The team will host Moss Point at 7:00 p.m. on October 17th as they aim for a top seed in the MHSAA 4A State Playoffs.  Gazebo Gazette
  • Ocean Springs Lady Greyhounds will face Madison Central in the 7A State Championship as they seek revenge after nearly clinching last season's title — the top-ranked team is aiming for its first trophy.  WXXV 25
  • Our Lady Academy volleyball will play Alcorn Central on Friday morning as it tries for its fourth straight 3A State Championship title. The team—led by seniors who have never lost a championship match—is aiming for its 18th title since 2002.  WXXV 25
