- ➤ The City of Biloxi will host two Halloween events this month. Halloween on Howard is set for October 25 at 5 p.m. on Howard Avenue and Trunk or Treat at Eagle Point will be held on October 28 at 6 p.m. WXXV 25
- ➤ Officials said that the 29th Cruisin’ the Coast car show set a new record with 10,334 registered vehicles from Oct. 5-12, with cars coming from 42 states and several other countries. Local mayors noted the event boosted coastal business and its $36 million economic impact is expected to grow when the show returns Oct. 4-11 next year—adding to its regional benefits. - ➤ In Pass Christian, the annual Trinity Episcopal Pumpkin Patch is now open daily from 10 a.m. until dark with volunteers delivering pumpkins from New Mexico — all funds raised benefit local groups like the Boys and Girls Club and Gulfport Humane Society. - ➤ Coastal Mississippi and its partners received statewide recognition at the Mississippi Governor’s Conference on Tourism Awards when they earned the Tourism Partnerships of the Year Award for Southern Roots & Modern Takes, celebrating a two-day event in New York City with media tastings and a sold-out public dinner. The organization also honored key community members as Kay Kell was named Community Volunteer of the Year, Vestige was recognized as Restaurant of the Year, and the Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival received the Large Festival/Event of the Year Award. - ➤ Nicole Martz from the Mississippi Aquarium is hosting an immersive marine science education experience for students in grades six through 12. The MSU Science Education at Sea event is scheduled for Saturday, October 18 & will offer hands-on learning opportunities for participants. WXXV 25

- ➤ Keesler Federal Credit Union is offering paycheck relief to eligible federal employees facing payroll interruptions from the government shutdown—members can get an advance on their direct deposit for up to 90 days with no fees if they meet the enrollment criteria. WXXV 25

- ➤ The Mississippi Department of Revenue warns residents about a tax return text scam — scammers send fake texts that lead to unofficial websites asking for bank and credit card details — and tells people to delete these messages right away. - ➤ Mississippi State Department of Health is giving safe sleep tips during National Safe Sleep and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Awareness Month & warns that sleep-related deaths are the third-leading cause of infant loss in the state. The guidelines advise caregivers to put babies to sleep on their backs in a crib with a firm mattress and to avoid loose bedding to reduce the risk of accidental suffocation.
