COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Wednesday, hundreds gathered in Diamondhead for the annual Cruisin' the Coast celebration where paradegoers viewed vintage Broncos — colorful classic Chevrolets as seven clergy blessed each car with a certificate. Although inclement weather cut the event at Diamondhead Town Green short, local residents continue to cherish this coastal tradition.  WXXV 25
  • Cruisin’ the Coast registration numbers for America’s Largest Block Party reached 10,100 vehicles as of Thursday — surpassing last year’s 9,961 and 2023’s 10,070, a sign of strong interest ahead of the event.  WXXV 25
  • Funeral arrangements for former Sun Herald publisher and community leader Roland Weeks Jr., who died over the weekend, were announced with visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14 at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home in Biloxi—Weeks wished to have his ashes scattered on the Mississippi Coast. This event highlights his long service in civic and community affairs.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Gulfport School District hosted a cleanup event last month at Mississippi City Cemetery and is preparing a tour on October 18 — Melanie Davis from Central and Pass Road Elementary explained the plans.  WXXV 25

FINANCE NEWS

  • Biloxi-based Keesler Federal Credit Union announced a paycheck relief program for federal employees affected by the government shutdown that allows advanced payroll deposits up to 90 days—eligible members who have received direct deposit for three pay cycles can sign up with no fee while the bank automatically deducts the advanced funds when paychecks resume.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • George County volleyball swept Long Beach 3-0 in the MHSAA 6A playoffs and will go to South State on Monday to face Hancock Lady Hawks—WXXV Sports Director Ansley Brent highlighted the match.  WXXV 25
  • The No. 4 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs defeated the East Central Warriors 27-3 in Week Seven NJCAA football—improving to a 6-0 record as they maintained an undefeated streak.  WXXV 25
  • Biloxi high school volleyball captain Adelyn Fontenelle ended her career with over 1,000 digs. Her milestone—an important mark of her skill and hard work—shows the impact she had on her team.  WXXV 25
  • Earlier this week, Our Lady Academy's Myah Favre was named Miss Volleyball for class 3A for the second year in a row after posting the nation's top hitting percentage and 561 kills. She said she feels honored by the award and congratulated her team as they continue their road to a state championship + a new season of strong play.  WXXV 25
