COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WXXV introduced its new evening anchor, Aubrey Spears, who joined the team after recent changes and met with News Director Grant Chighizola—she will bring fresh energy to the station.  WXXV 25
  • The Pink Heart Funds is gearing up for events on the Coast—Brenda Long and Judith Brannan joined a studio session to explain how locals can get involved and preview what to expect.  WXXV 25

BUSINESS NEWS

  • NBC Universal and YouTube TV have reached a long-term distribution agreement that will allow subscribers in South Mississippi to continue receiving their WXXV NBC programming & prevent any blackout in the coming days.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Diamondhead Mayor Anna Liese, Todd Torguson and Lloyd Ramirez discussed the upcoming Blessing of the Classics event—which will take place Wednesday, October 8 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.—near city hall.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Southern Miss Esports Team will host a camp for middle schoolers on October 7 and October 9 to offer an educational experience for kids aged 11 to 14—grades five through eight. Jeff Taylor and Trace Rutman provided the details about the event.  WXXV 25

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Save our Sound, a group of local leaders, proposed landmark federal legislation this week to protect natural resources. The group said the Army Corps of Engineers opens the Bonnet Carre Spillway when the Mississippi River floods—this action dumps polluted water into the Mississippi Sound and harms seafood, tourism and the local environment.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Gulfport Admirals started their district game strong with a 41-28 win against the undefeated Ocean Springs Greyhounds—Cooper Crosby scored an early touchdown and the team blocked a punt returned for a score. Gulfport will host the St. Martin Yellow Jackets while Ocean Springs will face the D’Iberville Warriors at 7 p.m. on October 10th.  WXXV 25
