COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Laurie Rosetti announced that the 19th annual Old Biloxi Cemetery Tour will be held on Sunday, October 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. and on October 21 from 5 to 7 p.m.—it will offer locals a guided look at Biloxi's historic cemetery sections.  WXXV 25
  • Elijah’s Closet will host its Seaside Social in November with an auction on November 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.—Emily Williams previewed what guests can expect at the event.  WXXV 25

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A new report from State Farm shows that Mississippi drivers are among the top 10 most likely to hit deer and other animals—raising concerns about road safety. The study advises drivers to stay alert when traveling on routes with high animal activity.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Attorney General’s Office marked the third anniversary of its Mississippi Access to Maternal Assistance service—MAMA—a tool that connects pregnant women and mothers to state resources. Since its October 2023 launch, the website received over 27,000 visits and 88,000 page hits while the mobile app was downloaded more than 1,000 times, and the office continues to add new resources.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • In 2026, the Mississippi legislature will have about $65 million in Gulf Coast Restoration Funds for projects—counties, cities, and developers applied for money as the advisory board took its first look at proposals Thursday.   • Gov. Tate Reeves declared Oct. 6-11 as Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Mississippi — residents will review emergency plans and gather supplies to prepare for natural disasters.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

  • The Mississippi State Department of Health is urging women to schedule breast cancer screenings this October—early detection can help save lives.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Biloxi Shuckers have been named Southern League finalists for four MiLB Organizational Awards and will be honored on Monday, October 6 at the MiLB Awards Show in Indianapolis. The team was recognized in awards for MiLB Future Star for media manager Javik Blake, MiLB Together for community service, and two Golden Bobblehead awards for a military softball game and the Biloxi Beach Chickens promotion—underscoring their commitment to both baseball and the local community.  WXXV 25
  • Local Gulf Coast volleyball teams finished district play undefeated—seven programs became champions hosting their first playoff games while 11 additional teams join postseason action, with playoffs starting Saturday, October 4th for Classes 1A-4A and Tuesday, October 7th for Classes 5A-7A.  WXXV 25
  • Hancock volleyball wrapped up the regular season with a 3—2 win over Purvis on the final night of play; the Lady Hawks scored set margins of 21—25, 25—20, 20—25, 25—19 and 15—5 while captain Lainey Necaise surpassed 500 kills.  WXXV 25
  • Mississippi high school football rosters are released for two all-star games— the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game on Dec. 13 at M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg and the Bernard Blackwell Classic on Dec. 20 at Milner Stadium in Gulfport—with teams and coaches from across the state ready to compete.
