COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Traintastic in Gulfport needs volunteers to build a Lego tree ahead of the Christmas season. Build days are set for October 4, October 18, November 1, and November 15 — those interested should email Tabitha Barnes for details.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dozens of kids auditioned for the upcoming Broadway musical A Christmas Story at the Beau Rivage for Christmas — five were chosen from over 30 hopefuls. The selected cast will rehearse for two to three weeks before the musical opens December 12 and runs until December 27 — marking the start of the festive production.  WXXV 25
  • Cruisin’ the Coast will run from October 5 to October 12 with events across the Gulf Coast—this festival includes Cruise Central at Jones Park in Gulfport, cruise-ins, car parades, and celebrity visits. The schedule also features registration pick-ups, food sampling, autocross races, and live concerts at various venues.  WXXV 25

ECONOMY NEWS

  • American Cruise Lines will launch a new Gulf Coast cruise route in March with an overnight stop in Gulfport, bringing visitors from Pensacola to New Orleans and boosting local tourism—travelers aboard the American Symphony will enjoy Gulfport’s waterfront, restaurants and attractions.  Gazebo Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three Mississippi high schoolers from Long Beach, Jackson Prep, and Gulfport High have been named U.S. Presidential Scholars by U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon—this honor recognizes their achievements in academics, arts, and career technical fields among 161 students chosen from nearly 4 million graduates.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College received a $2,600 scholarship Monday morning from the Sunray Companies for its massage therapy program at the Perkinston Campus—this award gives each student $200 every year to help reduce financial barriers.  WXXV 25

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health officials confirmed Monday that an infant under two months died from pertussis, marking Mississippi’s first whooping cough death of 2025—115 cases have been reported since January 1.
