EDUCATION NEWS

  • Misty Chastain was named September Teacher of the Month by WXXV & Huntington Learning Center for her work as a special education inclusion teacher at D'Iberville Middle School, where she has spent nearly ten years helping her students succeed.  WXXV 25
  • The Mississippi Department of Education released its accountability report for the 2024-2025 school year and all South Mississippi school districts earned an A or B grade — Biloxi is among the A districts, and Poplarville had the highest graduation rate at 96%.  WXXV 25
  • The Mississippi Department of Education released accountability grades for the 2024‑25 school year that show a drop in public school achievement, with 80.1% of schools and 87.2% of districts earning a C or higher compared to higher percentages last year—fewer schools met the state goal of a C or better rating. State officials plan to seek legislative funding for new literacy and math initiatives and support improved instructional materials to boost student progress.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • An 11-year-old girl from Canada, Joya Santarossa, got her wish granted at the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport through Make-A-Wish Mississippi and saw dolphins up close after a year of treatment for a brain tumor—she will cap her visit with a Toby Mac concert today at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.  WXXV 25
