COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A group from Florida and Iowa is volunteering with Back Bay Mission in Biloxi for the next two weeks—helping to build ramps and porches on local homes. The volunteers have returned since Hurricane Katrina to support the community each year.  WXXV 25
  • Advocates and community leaders met in Gulfport on Wednesday at the Knight Nonprofit Center to work on stopping child abuse and helping kids heal—organizers included Canopy Children’s Solution’s Child Advocacy Center and the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services. Speakers said that working together as one team will help protect children and provide quick care.  WXXV 25

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Entergy Mississippi will start its largest grid upgrade today to improve service and cut outages by 50% over the next five years using a $300 million program called Superpower Mississippi—funded by new revenues from large industrial investments. HEALTH NEWS

  • The Gulf Coast Center for Nonviolence will open the Waypoint Forensic Clinic on October 1 — offering no-cost, trauma-informed forensic exams and care for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Trained sexual assault nurse examiners will staff the clinic to provide survivor-centered support in Gulfport.  WXXV 25

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Katie King with the Humane Society of South Mississippi showcased Moon—an 11-year-old lab mix now available for adoption in Gulfport on Hwy 49.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Ocean Springs Greyhounds won 56-42 over the Maroon Tide, with senior Hayden and sophomore Chalmers Berglind making key plays— the team will play Biloxi in district play Friday night as they aim for a state championship.  WXXV 25
  • Minor League Baseball announced its yearly awards for the Southern League on Tuesday, naming Sal Stewart as MVP, Ty Johnson as Pitcher of the Year, and Biloxi’s Luke Adams and Brock Wilken to the All-Star team.
