  • The Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport announced a mud run on November 15 — Fitness Director Mike McLaughlin and Lt. Alex Butler provided details about the planned event. The activity is set for November and promises a challenging fitness experience for participants.  WXXV 25

  • The Mississippi Songwriters Festival is starting today in South Mississippi with a Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Mary C. in Ocean Springs—events will run at different venues until Sunday with a grand finale at the Mary C. from 1 to 7 p.m.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • D’Iberville High School introduced a high-tech robotic dog called Warri-O today using donated funds to boost STEM learning at North Woolmarket Elementary and Middle School—students experienced a hands-on demonstration as the robot moved, interacted, and responded to commands.  WXXV 25

FINANCE NEWS

  • Officials report that more than 1,300 Mississippians have used a free life insurance policy locator tool so far this year—collecting over $24 million, while more than 1,600 claimed over $37 million in 2024. The locator, created by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, connects beneficiaries with unclaimed policies to secure benefits.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

  • Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith and Senator Rev. Raphael Warnock introduced a resolution that sets Gold Star Families Remembrance Week from September 21 through 27 to honor military families and their sacrifices—following the observance of Gold Star Mother's Day, which is recognized as the last Sunday in September.  WXXV 25
