- ➤ Walmart gave a $500 grant to the Friends of the Pass Christian Public Library to support the Butterflies in the Pass Monarch Festival — the free event will take place on October 4th from 10am to 1pm at War Memorial Park and will teach people about Monarch butterflies and pollinators. - ➤ The Mississippi Songwriter Festival will be held from September 18 to 21 at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Arts Center in Ocean Springs—continuing a yearly tradition of celebrating our state’s rich music heritage. WXXV 25
- ➤ WAMA invites students in grades K-12 to submit their artwork for its Winter Student Art Show—set for December at the Ocean Springs Community Center. Entries must be received by Friday, October 31. WXXV 25

- ➤ Hancock Whitney is sponsoring free children’s admission and offering 25% off adult tickets at The Mississippi Aquarium on select fall dates for its customers — Aquarium Marketing Director Nicole Martz said the Oceans of Opportunity events will give families a chance to explore the exhibits at a discount. - ➤ South Mississippians gathered at Biloxi Town Green on Saturday for the 44th Biloxi Seafood Festival, where coastal restaurants served top seafood dishes and local music filled the air — organizers are already planning for next year's event. WXXV 25
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, the University of Southern Mississippi dedicated a new OLLI space at its Gulf Park campus in Long Beach with a ribbon cutting that celebrated 10 years of lifelong learning for over 200 members. The new facility includes a classroom, library, and social area—featuring artwork by local icons Walter Anderson and Alice Moseley—to support learning and social connection. Gazebo Gazette

- ➤ Amtrak reported that over the first 15 days of its Mardi Gras service in South Mississippi the train averaged 447 daily riders—65% of seats were filled during normal times and 75% at peak times, with 6,700 passengers boarding from Mobile and New Orleans between August 18 and September 1. An extra rail car was added on the weekend to meet demand from Saints game travel and the train arrived on time 82% of the time with coach fares averaging $26. WXXV 25
- ➤ Gulfport's Combat Readiness Training Center held a change of command ceremony on September 7 when Chief Master Sgt. Michael Jamison handed control to Chief Master Sgt. Joshua Thomas. Thomas will use his experience to train airmen and lead as the senior enlisted leader — reinforcing confidence in the center's force. WXXV 25
