COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce announced that 34 local business and community leaders were chosen for the 2025—2026 Leadership Gulf Coast program. The program will build networks to tackle local challenges and create growth opportunities for the new cohort.  Gazebo Gazette
  • The annual Biloxi Community Festival against Crime will be held on September 20 at Point Cadet Plaza where residents will learn about safety programs offered by the police and fire departments. The event will feature music—games, displays, demonstrations, free food and drinks and will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  WXXV 25

BUSINESS NEWS

  • St. James Cheese Company, a specialty store with two New Orleans locations, opened its third shop in Pass Christian at The Pass Bungalows on West Scenic Drive across from the harbor. The new location stocks a range of cheeses, meats and gourmet items and has received a warm welcome from local businesses.  Gazebo Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tickets for the Faery Court Ball are now on sale at the Joppa Shrine on Shriners BLVD — the event will take place on September 26 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. and sales will close on September 19, as confirmed by founder Suzanne Stafford.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Southern Miss professor Dr. Vijay Rangachari has been named to the 2025-2027 Bennett Endowed Professorship (supporting his research on proteins linked to brain illnesses and sponsoring the Biennial Bennett Symposium) and he thanked his nominators.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Teal season will begin on September 20 and run until September 28, and hunters must complete their hip survey before hunting migratory birds—lifetime and exempt license holders included; those hunting on wildlife management areas must buy a permit and check in using the Huntfish app.  WXXV 25
  • MDOT and city officials cut the ribbon today in Long Beach to mark the completed railroad crossing improvement project—funded by the Federal Highway Administration's safety program. The upgrade improved crossings on streets like White Harbor Road and Trautman Avenue.  WXXV 25
  • The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources declared that waters south and west of a line in the Biloxi Bay Channel will open for shrimping from 6 a.m. on Monday, September 15 — the shrimp season ends at midnight on December 31 except in areas south of the Intracoastal Waterway, which will close for shrimping (except for live bait) on April 30.  Gazebo Gazette

  • Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs ended a two-game losing streak Friday at Bary Thrash Field when Alexander Mink scored a hat trick to secure a 4-1 win over Georgia Military — coach Chris Handy said the win gives the team needed momentum ahead of conference play.  Gazebo Gazette
