CULTURE NEWS

  • Local music fans will see Judas Priest, Alice Cooper and Corrosion of Conformity start their fall tour at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Tuesday, Sept. 16 — the show will begin at 6:45 p.m. with tickets starting at $45.  Gazebo Gazette
  • Brandon Boudreaux, the new executive director of the Maritime and Seafood Museum, joined a studio interview to discuss his role and future plans for the museum—he detailed his vision for attracting more visitors and expanding exhibits.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local scientists from the Department of Marine Resources visited a 7th grade class at North Woolmarket Elementary and Middle School—teaching the students to test water and view bacteria so they could learn how oysters live along our coast.  WXXV 25

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mississippi State’s Holley Muraco uses drones with thermal cameras to study dolphin movement and skin changes by comparing clean water in the Virgin Islands with murkier water in the Florida Keys and Mississippi Sound. She will ask for more money to keep tracking dolphin health—an early sign of water quality issues.  Gazebo Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mississippi officials remembered the 24th anniversary of September 11 by holding events, lowering flags, and sharing tributes from leaders such as Gov. Tate Reeves and Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann.   • Our Lady Academy volleyball team traveled to St. Patrick and secured a 3-0 win in a heated rivalry match—improving their record to 26-3 as the season nears its end.  WXXV 25
  • Southern Miss announced that Head Baseball Coach Christian Ostrander signed a 4-year contract extension, as told by Associate Athletic Director Jack Duggan today.
