COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The sixth annual Faery Court Ball in Biloxi will benefit local non-profits and feature a magical theme — Court of the Dragon Realm of Asgard — with events such as a costume contest, exotic animal displays, vendors and raffles. Ticket sales close Sept. 19 and founder Suzanne Stafford started the ball to give adults a night to dance, eat and support local groups.  WXXV 25

  • Mississippi Highway Patrolman Tavon Moore is still healing from a motorcycle injury on the Coast—last week, the Georgia State Patrol visited him in Atlanta as he makes steady progress despite facing a long road to recovery.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mississippi will join the 137th Rose Parade on Jan. 1 at 10 a.m. CT in Pasadena with its float 'Mississippi: Where Creativity Blooms.' The float will feature a stage with Kermit the Frog as a nod to Jim Henson's legacy, live music by Charlie Worsham, artwork inspired by Walter Anderson, and signage pointing to local arts sites like the Ohr O'Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MGCCC held a 5K at its Perkinston campus Tuesday evening to honor victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks—participants walked or ran to show support for a healthy lifestyle, and the college will hold a Veterans Day race next.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport is hosting a 9/11 remembrance ceremony open to the public today from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.—base officials will honor those who died and the first responders who answered the call at the base theater.  WXXV 25
  • Dredging at Parker Creek is underway and will last about six months as workers handle the over 4,000-foot project—improving water drainage and boat access. The $200,000 effort will keep the creek open—so residents must use caution when on the water.  WXXV 25

HEALTH NEWS

  • Walmart will host its annual Wellness Event on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—offering free health screenings, affordable immunizations, and free vision checks at local stores in Mississippi. The event will also provide free flu shots, other vaccines, and highlight expanded pharmacy services including planned upgrades to nearly 2,000 locations by year-end.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • SSC Rocks won 20-14 over Bay High during the annual Battle for the Crab Trap held at Joe D. McCullough Stadium on September 5, keeping the trophy at home with a fourth consecutive win in the rivalry that dates back to 1945—Coach Tate Thigpen praised the team for overcoming injuries as they prepared for their next game in Moss Point. This win capped a challenging game marked by penalties, turnovers, and key scores that shifted the momentum in favor of the Rocks.  Gazebo Gazette
  • St. Patrick swimmer Parker Talley — a team captain with the Fighting Irish since seventh grade — is named Student Athlete of the Week; he set a personal best in the 500-yard freestyle last season and helped his team win the 2024 South State Championship. He also earned a 4.1 GPA and was accepted to Mississippi State’s Shackouls Honors College to study mechanical engineering.  WXXV 25
