  • Former Biloxi Mayor Gerald Blessey spoke with WXXV as he recalled working with the governor’s office on the housing crisis after Katrina destroyed thousands of homes on August 29, 2005—remarks made in light of the 20th anniversary of the storm.  WXXV 25
  • Mississippi Highway Patrol begins its Labor Day Holiday Travel enforcement today at 6 a.m. until Monday at midnight — increasing patrols along the Coast to reduce speeding, impaired driving, and ensure seatbelt use.  WXXV 25

  • Dr. Jennifer Bryan launched Quiet Signal Technologies and its platform Shimmer Frame to flag AI errors in patient records — the system works with existing records to help protect patient safety.   • The Mississippi State Department of Health has distributed over 20,000 free naloxone kits across the state to help reverse opioid overdoses—officials say the program will strengthen prevention efforts ahead of International Overdose Awareness Day on Aug. 31.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

  • Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College came back from a slow start to win its season opener 41–21 while the Bulldogs honored Marcus Dickey, an honorary captain who died in a car accident on Sunday—his signed jersey was carried for the coin toss. Quarterback Landon Varnes threw for 426 yards as the team prepares to host Mississippi Delta Community College on September 4th at 7:00 p.m.  WXXV 25
