COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Friday, Beau Rivage staff presented checks at Moore Community House and other local venues to support nonprofits across the coast—donating $182,000 in total and including a $10,000 check for the Women in Construction program that provides job training for women seeking work in construction.  WXXV 25

CRIME NEWS

  • A Long Beach man, 43-year-old Robert French, was sentenced to 40 years with 20 suspended after pleading guilty to trafficking fentanyl following an undercover investigation that began on March 25th when Gulfport police received a tip, tracked his vehicle, and seized over 80 grams of the drug — the first ten years of his sentence will be served without parole.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mississippi Aquarium is running an annual pass sale that gives families access to fresh exhibits and special events, with passes available until August 31st—Marketing Director Nicole Martz said a visitor tested the adventure with his son to highlight its benefits for making lasting memories.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Amtrak service returned along the Gulf Coast as the Mardi Gras service began operating Monday morning and restored rail travel after Hurricane Katrina— the train now stops at Pascagoula, Biloxi, Gulfport, and Bay St. Louis with riders able to travel to Mobile or New Orleans.  WXXV 25
  • Utility crews will begin work on August 20 at 8 a.m. in D’Iberville to close part of Mallett Road’s eastbound lane while keeping the north turning lane on Lamey Bridge Road open—traffic is directed to the center turning lane and law enforcement will help drivers until work finishes by 5 p.m. weather permitting.  WXXV 25
