CRIME NEWS

  • An Uber driver was charged with aggravated assault after he ran over a disabled veteran near the Singing River Training Facility in Ocean Springs on July 18—police said the driver told the veteran to walk to the correct facility before hitting him, and the victim is in stable condition.  WXXV 25

  • Jordyn Lassiter spotlights two black-owned restaurants along the Mississippi Gulf Coast as part of Black Restaurant Week in a special report on WXXV News 25—she reports on their unique menus and impact on local dining.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Best Buy hosted a Geek Squad Academy tech camp at the Boys and Girls Club in D’Iberville where local youth aged 10 to 18 learn coding, stop motion photography, digital music creation, robot coding, 3D design, and artificial intelligence—skills that can help with school and future careers. The Geek Squad will return on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to host the second day of interactive classes.  WXXV 25

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Mississippi Aquarium is hosting its fifth annual Shark Weekend today and Sunday as part of Shark Week (July 20-26) to teach locals about shark conservation and ocean balance.   • Lt. Candace Young of the Biloxi Police Department announced that residents can register their golf carts on July 23 at the Dr. Frank Gruich Sr. Community Center where an on-site inspection requires a $75 annual fee to receive a decal — ensuring vehicles meet local registration standards.  WXXV 25
  • The Mississippi Gaming Commission approved a site for Biloxi Capital’s casino, with Biloxi Attorney Michael Cavanaugh saying the decision supports the operator’s request. Developers will soon visit the commission to present proof of financial backing—moving the project closer to construction.  WXXV 25
  • The Biloxi Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on August 7 at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Municipal Building at 676 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to review a zoning map amendment for a portion of the parcel at 8275 West Oaklawn Road (Case No. 25-032-PC) and address land details (Tax Parcel No. 1108I-01-002.000).  Gazebo Gazette
