  • The Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber’s Military One Coast division has launched a 'Home away from Home' program today at Keesler Air Force Base to help service members adjust to life on the Coast—Gulfport Chamber Director Laura Benoit and Sgt. Austin Findley are guiding the effort.  WXXV 25

CRIME NEWS

  • Two men (De’Arion Walker and Brandon Favre Jr.) were arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service on charges of shooting into a dwelling on July 2, after multiple rounds were fired into a Waveland apartment door that had seven occupants, including three infants, with no injuries reported.  WXXV 25

  • Today, the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art holds its annual Ohr Birthday Bash to honor George Ohr—the Mad Potter of Biloxi—with pottery making and art sales available from local vendors. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is expected to draw over 600 visitors.  WXXV 25

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Entergy is looking to fill 1,061 energy jobs in Mississippi and is urging young people to join its utility workforce, where most roles require only a certificate or an associate's degree. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Caterria Payton, who has spent more than 25 years in the Pascagoula—Gautier School District, was named superintendent and previously served as assistant superintendent and principal at Pascagoula High School. Students will return to class on July 23 as part of the flex schedule for the 2025—2026 school year.  WXXV 25
  • USM’s Gulf Park Campus hosted a poster session Thursday night—28 high school interns in the GenSea Blue Economy internship shared their projects on marine science and coastal restoration. The students worked with GenSea partners and industry leaders to gain hands-on experience over the summer.  WXXV 25

  • Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College welcomed its first-year head softball coach Izzy Werdann as she prepares to lead the team this season—Sports Director Ansley Brent discussed her appointment and the upcoming prospect camp in an interview.  WXXV 25
  • Soccer alum Stephen Kulikowski will be inducted on July 25 into the Pearl River Athletics Hall of Fame at Hollywood Casino & Resort in Bay St. Louis. He earned recognition as a key defender and playmaker at PRCC and will join fellow inductees Larry Brackins, Polly Kirkland LeVert, and Stevie Moody.  Gazebo Gazette
