COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Stacy Robinson-Crowder and Victoria Conway of the Junior Auxiliary of Biloxi Ocean Springs are collecting school supplies to support local students (details on how to help will be shared locally).  WXXV 25
  • The Salvation Army Gulf Coast welcomed new area commanders as Major Paul Egan arrives from Kentucky with 35 years of ministry experience. He and Major Karen will lead social services, emergency disaster response — and spiritual care for the local community.  WXXV 25

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Starting July 12, participants will spawn oysters using a mobile hatchery — the next phase of the Aquaculture Advanced Seed Production Training Program — on the Gulf Coast. The free 100-hour training gives oyster farmers hands-on experience in larval care, broodstock conditioning and hatchery operations.  Gazebo Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Southern Miss celebrated its first OEEP graduate when Glenn Anglada used ocean engineering and business training to launch his own 3D printing business in Gulfport — his work focused on creating watertight underwater parts. The program, funded by RESTORE Act resources, supports local workforce development and the state’s growing Blue Economy.  Gazebo Gazette

  • The Biloxi Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday, July 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Municipal Building at 676 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to review cases involving a zoning map amendment for 15039 Lorraine Road, a conditional use application for a short-term rental at 132 Dukate Street, and a request to remove oak trees at 988 Wildwood Lane—each case identified by its respective case number.  Gazebo Gazette
  • State Senator Scott Delano discussed plans to reform the Mississippi wind pool fund, which allocates several million dollars to economic and environmental projects along the coast.  WXXV 25
