ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Popp’s Ferry Bridge reopened after an early morning collision when a tugboat with a barge struck it at 1 a.m.—the City of Biloxi said it is repairing the damaged marine navigation lights while keeping the bridge closed to marine traffic.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wading through History — a commemoration of the Civil Rights Wade-Ins — will take place Monday, June 23, starting with the Bridge Memorial Walk and Roll Call from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at the Jones Park overpass followed by a Wade-In Commemoration and Cultural Expo at the Coast Transit Authority in Gulfport from 6 to 7:15 p.m. where there will be networking, food, and fellowship.  WXXV 25

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Gulf Coast shrimp fleet will drop its net in Mississippi waters on Monday at 6 a.m.—all boats must have a valid license from the Mississippi Department of Maritime Resources.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mississippi and Nvidia partnered to expand AI training at community colleges, universities and technical institutions as Gov. Tate Reeves announced on June 20—this program aims to train at least 10,000 people in skills for future tech jobs. The initiative is funded partly by grants including $9.1 million—designed to boost workforce development in the state.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Coast Transit Authority celebrated 50 years of service on Thursday by offering food, beverages, and commemorative items at its Biloxi and Gulfport transit centers—Thursday also marked Try Transit Day when people rode transit routes free of cost.  WXXV 25
  • Scrapin the Coast kicks off today and law enforcement agencies warn of traffic delays on Highway 90 from Cowan Road to Debuys Road as one lane is reserved for first responders. Diversion plans reroute heavy traffic to I-10, Seaway Road, and other local routes—drivers can sign up for B-Alerts for updates.  WXXV 25
  • Federal grants of $21.48 million have been awarded to 52 Mississippi airports through two FAA programs, announced by Senator Roger Wicker on Friday. The funding will help upgrade airport facilities—boosting local travel and economic growth.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
