- ➤ State lawmakers appointed members for a new Mississippi Opioid Settlement Advisory Council to guide how $315 million from an opioid settlement is spent on addiction help and harm reduction. Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann and House Speaker Jason White named experts and affected lawmakers with terms lasting until December 31 or for three years, and all appointments are due today (deadline). - ➤ Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced Tuesday that state and local governments will receive nearly $41 million from a nationwide settlement with Purdue Pharma — the funds will be distributed over 15 years to help address the opioid crisis. - ➤ The state of Mississippi signed an MOU with NVIDIA to boost AI education and research in key areas such as agriculture, healthcare, energy and defense— the partnership will fund new training courses and workforce development programs aimed at preparing Mississippians for high-tech careers. - ➤ At Keesler Federal Park, little leaguers (ages 7 to 13) attended the first Nike Baseball Camp run by the Biloxi Shuckers over three days to learn the basics of pitching, fielding, and hitting. - ➤ On Wednesday, the SEC released new conference schedules for Ole Miss and Mississippi State for the upcoming season.
