- ➤ Four Long Beach firefighters graduated from the National Fire Protection Association Firefighter I-II course at Mississippi State Fire Academy in Jackson on June 5, earning their certification to serve the community. A Pass Christian firefighter and 23 others also completed the course & fire chief Griff Skellie said the training will help them manage emergencies throughout their careers. Gazebo Gazette
- ➤ General Joe Spraggins was honored with the 2025 Friendship Oak Award by Southern Miss at its Gulf Park campus in Long Beach — recognizing his support for marine research and coastal restoration. He served as the executive director of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources — and as commissioner of the Gulfport-Biloxi Regional Airport Authority —, a role that has strengthened coastal efforts. - ➤ The Mississippi State Department of Health is advising residents to stay safe this summer by drinking plenty of water, using sunscreen rated SPF-15 or higher, and applying mosquito repellent—measures that also include caution around water and food to prevent heat-related injuries. WXXV 25
