Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 8th of June.
Good morning, Biloxi.
General Joe Spraggins received the 2025 Friendship Oak Award at Southern Miss on the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach for his leadership in marine research and coastal restoration.
The retired Air Force officer and executive director of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources has supported critical coastal projects along the Gulf Coast.
MDOT reported that 30 crashes at public railroad crossings in 2024 resulted in five fatalities and 12 injuries and has led the department to improve safety by inspecting crossings and using federal funding for upgrades—such as raising roadway approaches in Long Beach to prevent trucks from stalling on tracks. MDOT is now designing a similar project in Pass Christian while working with local agencies to install additional warning devices.
On Friday, June 7th, the Biloxi Shuckers celebrated their 10th anniversary at Keesler Federal Park as the first 1000 fans received rally towels and Chef Terrell Warren served a special meal while long-time 2015 front office staff were honored.
The Shuckers defeated the Montgomery Biscuits 5—2 with strong pitching by Mississippi State alum KC Hunt and a three-run homer by Luke Adams before finishing with post-game fireworks.
