COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies will release three rehabilitated sea turtles on Biloxi Beach across from the Edgewater Mall at 3:30 p.m.—the event will also be livestreamed on the IMMS Facebook page.  WXXV 25

CRIME NEWS

  • In Long Beach today, FBI & Department of Homeland Security detained seven illegal immigrants in a joint operation; officials said details remain limited as the investigation continues.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bikin’ The Beach kicked off today in Biloxi with over 30 music acts performing on the Hurricane Harley-Davidson Stage, and local band Champions Gate expressed their excitement about the event. The free festival runs through June 8th along Biloxi Beach + tickets are needed for main stage access.  WXXV 25
  • A poster for the 96th Annual Blessing of the Fleet and Shrimp Festival was unveiled Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church—where the Shrimp King and Shrimp Queen contestants were presented. Boats from across the Coast will gather on July 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the event.  WXXV 25
  • Everett Ganier Jr. from WXXV News 25 stopped by the Beau Rivage Theatre where rehearsals are underway for the acclaimed musical Grease, which will hit the stage soon.  WXXV 25
  • Rehearsals are underway at Beau Rivage Theatre for the musical “Grease,” which will run from June 12 to June 29 with shows on Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m. — Tickets are now on sale for this limited summer entertainment based on the iconic film.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today at the Gulfport Rotary meeting, Southern Rail Commission Chairman Knox Ross said that the restored Amtrak Mardi Gras service connecting Mobile and New Orleans will begin late summer—likely in late July or early August—and include stops in Pascagoula, Biloxi, Gulfport, and Bay St. Louis. The official schedule and ticket prices will be announced in the next few weeks.  WXXV 25
  • Gov. Tate Reeves has appointed Michael Reed to serve as the circuit judge for the 12th district — his appointment follows a formal selection process to ensure the court continues to function properly.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • Competitors have signed up at the busy Biloxi marina for the 29th Annual Gulf Coast Billfish Classic—boasting nearly $2 million in prize money and drawing 90 teams mostly from out-of-state. Weigh-ins are set for today and tomorrow, with Saturday expected to draw the largest crowds and big catches.  WXXV 25
