- ➤ The 97th Blessing of the Fleet brought shrimpers to the Biloxi Channel Sunday for a traditional wreath drop and blessing to honor past fishermen, while Saturday night Ryleigh Merriman was crowned Shrimp Queen at the Shrimp Festival on Harrah’s Great Lawn. WXXV 25
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Atlantic hurricane season began on June 1 with NOAA forecasting eight to 14 named storms, three to six hurricanes, and one to three major hurricanes. The outlook marked below-normal activity because of El Nino (a factor influencing storm development). WXXV 25
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mississippi Emergency Management Agency urges residents to prepare for the Atlantic hurricane season, which began on June 1 and lasts until Nov. 30, by assembling a three-to-five-day disaster kit and reviewing evacuation routes. SuperTalk Mississippi Media
- ➤ Hurricane season is here and Coast Transit Authority offers free evacuation transportation for Harrison County residents, who can register online or call 228-896-8080; riders will be taken to and from shelters with up to two carry-on items per person + registration must be renewed annually. - ➤ State officials and employees got a firsthand look at AI during Anthropic Day Mississippi at Gulf Coast Community College’s Harrison County campus last Friday. Organizers said the training showcased practical uses of tools like Claude & Claude Code to help government, education and industry upgrade skills. WXXV 25

- ➤ The Harrison County School District launched its summer meal program Monday, with the bulk meal pickup option reaching capacity and daily free breakfast and lunch continuing through July 17 — serving meals at traditional cafeterias and via a mobile dining trailer. WXXV 25

- ➤ D'Iberville standout Jordan 'Champ' Walley has committed to play for the University of Minnesota (continuing a family legacy) after a strong season; he will complete his senior year before joining the Golden Gophers. WXXV 25
- ➤ Anglers are gathering tonight in Biloxi for the 29th Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic at a dock party that kicks off an event with offshore competition. A big boat parade is scheduled for Thursday on the Biloxi Channel, where competitors will aim for record catches & big prizes. WXXV 25
- ➤ D’Iberville track and field athletes Kaelyn (KK) McKenzie and Greg Boyden earned All-American honors at Under Armour Nationals in Florida after placing eighth in high jump and fifth in triple jump. Their achievements showcase local talent. WXXV 25
- ➤ After winning the 2026 NJCAA Division II World Series title in Enid, Oklahoma, the Pearl River Community College baseball team returned home to Poplarville where family and fans greeted the players with cheers and confetti. WXXV 25
