COMMUNITY NEWS

  • South Mississippians will gather on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Biloxi Visitor Center to celebrate the life of civic leader Karen Sock, who died in April after a courageous battle with cancer. Organizers invite attendees to wear bright colors and encourage donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation & Memorial Hospital Foundation’s oncology fund.  WXXV 25
  • The Junior Auxiliary of Biloxi-Ocean Springs will host its Once Upon a Gala at Beau Rivage Casino and Resort on June 20 at 7 p.m. to support programs that benefit local children.  WXXV 25

  • Caesars Entertainment is to be acquired by Fertitta Entertainment in a more than $17B deal that may affect Harrah’s Gulf Coast Casino locally; the acquisition awaits shareholder & regulator approval.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Shrek the Musical will open at Beau Rivage Theatre on June 11 and run through July 2, featuring beloved characters and familiar songs from the film. Tickets start at $25 per person.  WXXV 25

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A baby bald eagle is returning to its family in Pascagoula today after weeks of rehabilitation following a fall from an 80-foot nesting platform. Woodside Wildlife Rescue built a new nesting platform and treated the eaglet's broken leg before its release.  WXXV 25

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Biloxi-based Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare System received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for overall quality and patient care today, marking the second consecutive year with top marks. Officials praised the team — noting its collaborative focus on safe, timely care for veterans.  WXXV 25
