COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies released four sea turtles today on Biloxi Beach in front of Edgewater Mall—officials spoke to the crowd and a University of Alabama Birmingham class visited to watch the event.  WXXV 25
  • Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Gulfport will host a ribbon cutting for its new Seagull Splash Pad on Saturday, May 17. Members will get early access from 8:30 to 10—followed by a birthday bash with crafts and activities until noon—with all events included in museum admission.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • USA Today readers ranked Mississippi car shows among the nation’s best, with Cruisin’ the Coast set for Oct. 5—12 marking its 30th anniversary after nearly 10,000 vehicles attended last fall and generating over $30 million in local impact. Renaissance Euro Fest in Ridgeland, featuring more than 150 European cars, also received national recognition—a nod to the community’s vibrant car culture.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Senior Z’aandria Downs from D’Iberville High School was honored for 13 years of perfect attendance and recognized as Homecoming Queen, Prom Queen, Miss DHS, and a JROTC leader while balancing school, work, and extracurricular activities. She will soon attend college to study forensic science and join ROTC—she credits her father and mother for her strong motivation.  WXXV 25
  • On May 14th, the MGCCC School of Nursing and Health Professions held its pinning and recognition ceremony at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum to honor graduates from programs such as associate degree nursing and respiratory care technology — the event featured a candle-lighting and pinning ritual symbolizing their transition into nursing.  WXXV 25
  • This summer, 28 high school students will join the GenSea Blue Economy Summer Internship to learn marine science, ocean engineering and aquaculture as they work with partners — such as USM, Mississippi State University and the Mississippi Aquarium — on 4–6 week hands-on projects with bonus awards available upon completion. Selected students from local schools like Pass Christian and St. Stanislaus Catholic will gain STEM skills for future careers.  Gazebo Gazette

  • The Secretary of State said that post-election audits of the 2024 elections revealed no signs of fraud and that local officials did a strong job—efforts will continue in 2025 through 2027 to complete audits in all 82 counties.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
