  • Jamie Lee, assistant director of Biloxi Parks and Recreation Department, announced that swimming lessons will be offered at Biloxi Natatorium — residents can call 228-435-6205 for more details.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Biloxi is hosting its Preservation in May series today to highlight local history—historical administrator Mandy Hornsby explained the program to local reporters. The series will spotlight efforts to preserve Biloxi's unique heritage.  WXXV 25
  • Bishop Louis F. Kihneman III welcomed the election of Cardinal Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV—the first American pope in the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church—and called for prayers for his strength and wisdom. This statement marks a historic moment for the diocese and the global Catholic community.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Graduates from Project SEARCH completed their training at a ceremony held at the hospital cafe in Ocean Springs. The program—a collaboration between Singing River Health System, Ocean Springs and Pascagoula-Gautier School Districts, and the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services—helps young adults with disabilities find work.  WXXV 25

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mississippi Power met this week at its Operations Center in Lyman to finalize storm plans for the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The company will improve smart devices and replace wood poles with concrete ahead of the season which starts on June 1.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • East Central finished its regular season with a 5-0 record, making history as the first undefeated team in the inaugural MHSAA Girls Flag Football season—playoffs and the championship game will conclude the season this weekend.  WXXV 25
  • East Central's Lady Hornets won game one of the 5A South State Championship 10—0 in five innings, scoring three runs in the third, one in the second and six in the fifth. Game two takes place tonight at 7 p.m. at MGCCC.  WXXV 25
