  • StartUP Gulf Coast is hosting their second Pitch Competition on Tuesday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lynn Meadows Discovery Center; fourteen competitors will pitch ideas for a share of $15,000 as explained by organizer Alexa Curtrer.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • CPR Fest 22 will move indoors on Saturday because rain is expected. The festival will feature headliner Staind along with Sleep Theory, From Ashes to New, Nonpoint, Zero 9:36, and Royale Lynn at a local venue.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A cyberattack on Canvas disrupted final exam activities in several Mississippi schools as hackers threatened to release student data by May 12 — Mississippi State and others reported assignment delays and said they will provide updates as the situation unfolds.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • Saint Stanislaus was ranked the No. 1 high school for athletes in Mississippi by USA Today in a study that evaluated athletic programs and student success. The Catholic school offers 13 varsity sports + has won 27 state championships since 2009.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stennis International Airport on the Mississippi Gulf Coast has been awarded a $1.5 million grant from the Strategic Multi-Modal Investment Fund to upgrade Hangars 3 and 4; planned improvements include installing new HVAC systems, industrial cranes, and renovated office spaces to boost MRO capabilities.  Gazebo Gazette
  • Mississippi Power reminds residents to sign up for outage alerts ahead of hurricane season amid severe weather threats. Customers can text REG to 67797, pack a storm kit, and plan an evacuation route.  WXXV 25

HEALTH NEWS

  • Memorial Health celebrated Nurses Week on Wednesday with a Nurses Oath Renewal and Blessing of the Hands event at Memorial Hospital in Biloxi. Dozens of nurses renewed their commitment (with similar vows at its Gulfport campus) to uphold patient care and ethical standards.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • WXXV celebrated local student athletes with its annual Student Athlete Banquet at the Great Southern Club in Gulfport on Wednesday night. Athletes received plaques & a video tribute, and Barry Lyons delivered the keynote address.  WXXV 25
  • Thirteen Biloxi High student athletes signed with colleges on signing day. Adelyn Fontenelle will play volleyball at Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Na’Kenya Terry will join Jones College, while others signed with Holmes Community College, Pearl River Community College, East Mississippi Community College, University of Southern Mississippi, and more.  WXXV 25
  • Pass Christian High School track teams finished as state runner ups at the Class 4A Championships. The boys excelled in throwing and jumping while the girls shined in relays and track races in Pass Christian.  WXXV 25
