COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of D’Iberville is hosting a fee-free fishing rodeo with cash prizes at the end of the month plus a kids contest on May 23.  WXXV 25

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wendy’s is offering a $1 Frosty deal for its Classic Chocolate or Vanilla Frosty — available at participating locations across Mississippi until May 31. The promotion gives local customers a budget-friendly treat as gas prices continue to rise.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Daniel Stallworth, fresh from his American Idol run ending last week, will perform a free homecoming concert in Moss Point soon. The event celebrates his return to his hometown.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • The Gulf Coast Historical and Cultural Exposition is set to celebrate South Mississippi's past this Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Depot in Gulfport; the event is free and open to the public.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mississippi Department of Transportation has released its 2026 hurricane evacuation guide online today—available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese and featuring maps and an emergency checklist—and will distribute printed copies via newspapers, city halls, and libraries on the Coast in early June.  WXXV 25
  • Officials with MEMA advised residents on Monday, May 4 to prepare before hurricane season by building emergency supply kits, reviewing insurance policies, and checking evacuation routes before a storm threatens the coast.  WXXV 25
  • The state department of agriculture and commerce accepts applications for its wild hog control program (open May 1 until May 15) to help landowners address wild hog damage across all counties. Commissioner Andy Gipson says the program, which includes smart traps and training, will continue to deliver results.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • Harrison Central Red Rebel baseball celebrated seniors Bubba Harris and Connor Harrison as they signed with Southwest Community College Bears and Mississippi College Choctaws. The new agreements mark an important step forward for both athletes as they advance in their college careers.  WXXV 25
  • Pearl River Community College softball team defeated Jones College 5-2 thanks to eight plays by Ana Grace Garcia and a two run home run by Anastasia Acree; the Wildcats advance to the Poplarville Regional Championship Game today at 2 p.m.  WXXV 25
  • Olivia Umanzor, a senior defensive back with the St. Martin Yellowjackets flag football team, signed with Millsaps College to further her academic and athletic career, marking a milestone as the program continues to produce college-level talent.  WXXV 25
