EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is one of 25 finalists for the 2027 Aspen Prize for community college excellence + the contest awards $1 million every two years for achievement in learning and credential completion.  WXXV 25
  • Memorial Health System is hosting a free seminar for girls aged 9 to 12 (registration required) to help them navigate growing up with confidence and support. The event is set for May 13 at 6 p.m. at the chapel in Centennial Plaza.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Biloxi Police Department will honor fallen officers during its annual ceremony on May 13 at 10 a.m. at the police station on Porter Avenue, inviting the public to pay respects.  WXXV 25
  • Governor Reeves declared Hurricane Preparedness Week from May 3-9 to help residents get ready for the Atlantic hurricane season; state agencies like MEMA will share daily safety tips and local teams at WXXV Weather Authority are preparing a storm special scheduled to air later this month.  WXXV 25

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Officer Robert McKeithen Memorial Blood Drive will be held Tuesday, May 5 from Noon to 6 p.m. at the Biloxi Visitors Center, with donors receiving a commemorative t-shirt + honoring a fallen local officer.  WXXV 25
  • Singing River Health System welcomes Dr. Anna Pavlov (board-certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery), who is now scheduling patients at Singing River Plastic Surgery in Gulfport.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • Southern Miss swept its series in Hattiesburg, winning three close games & now heads to James Madison, while Mississippi State dropped its series and will host Nicholls Tuesday and Ole Miss lost its series & prepares for Texas A&M after a midweek break.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
