  • The Humane Society of South Mississippi’s Muttley Krewe will host its first ever Muttley Mayhem on May 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Humane Society (the event will unite the community to support pups).  WXXV 25
  • Harrison County invites seniors to showcase their talents at the Seniors Got Talent event on May 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the D’Iberville Civic Center — call 228-241-2007 for details.  WXXV 25
  • Spencer Pullen of News 25 spends the day with experts at Necaise Tree Service and tests his skills hands-on (Clocking In With Spencer) in Gulfport. The mini-feature offers a fresh look at local work.  WXXV 25
  • The Gulfport Chamber of Commerce will host the 13th Annual Taste, Rattle and Roll on Thursday, May 7 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Barksdale Pavilion — a 21+ seafood cookoff event featuring local restaurants and food vendors in a fundraising effort.  Gazebo Gazette

  • Construction has begun on a new Chick-fil-A along Pass Road near Rouses Markets as crews prepare for vertical work by year’s end, and downtown developers for Sharkheads have cleared approvals and will soon start underground utility work for a new store across from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.  Gazebo Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 97th Blessing of the Fleet kickoff was held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church Wednesday night where local organizers unveiled the 2026 poster and introduced Shrimp King and Queen contestants. The blessing mass will take place May 30 + the official festival will follow on May 31.  WXXV 25

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Chevron’s Pascagoula Refinery has doubled its processing capacity to roughly 100,000 barrels a day from Venezuelan crude and is operating 24 hours + easing fuel price pressures as global oil costs rise amid ongoing overseas conflict.  WXXV 25

HEALTH NEWS

  • Singing River Health System reached 5,000 Da Vinci Robotic surgeries at Ocean Springs Hospital, enabling minimally invasive procedures that reduce recovery time. Hospital leaders said they will treat more patients with this technology (advanced robotics) to improve care.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • Biloxi High alum Julie Segroves broke the Air Force Academy freshman school record with a jump of 13 feet 4.5 inches at the Drake Relays (she was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week) and now ranks second all-time at the academy.  WXXV 25
  • Ocean Springs Greyhounds beat the St. Martin Yellow Jackets 2-1 in game one of the second round playoffs at Jack. B Hughes Field — they will meet again on Friday at 6 p.m. on St. Martin's home turf.  WXXV 25
  • Mississippi Matrix Volleyball Club celebrated 11 athletes signing to play for colleges (Jones, Coastal Alabama, Jackson State, Itawamba CC, Mississippi Gulf Coast, Pearl River, and Co-Lin) on the Gulf Coast.  WXXV 25
