COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Latte Friends hosted its first Color Walk and Roll this past weekend, bringing families of all abilities together to walk, run, and roll through colorful powder stations while raising funds for programs that support adult independence (building job skills and community connections).  WXXV 25
  • The Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Taste, Rattle and Roll food event at Jones Park in Gulfport on Thursday, May 7 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Laura Benoit will join to provide added insights.  WXXV 25
  • William Carey University hosted Carey on the Coast this afternoon at Jones Park in Gulfport, where families enjoyed live music, carnival rides, games, and local food vendors along the waterfront. The event connected community members and celebrated local culture.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • American Idol season 24 resumes Monday with Mississippi native Daniel Stallworth, an elementary teacher from Moss Point competing for a Top 5 spot — viewers can vote online, by text or on social media at 7 p.m. CT to help him advance.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Two commercial development tours are scheduled to spotlight improvements along Pass Road (from Highway 49 to Keesler Air Force Base) and boost business opportunities in Biloxi. Board president Bobby Gillon said the tours will offer a closer look at potential projects.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pass Christian Middle School swept the MCTM 7th and 8th District Math Competition in March at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, securing 1st in both divisions; two students advanced to the state tournament at Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science & the win strengthens the school’s academic record.  Gazebo Gazette
  • Loyola University New Orleans and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College signed an MOU today at Loyola’s campus to create clear pathways for community college graduates, including seamless transfers to Loyola’s online Bachelor of Applied Science program — a move set to support regional workforce needs.  Gazebo Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After severe storms hit south Mississippi on the weekend, local officials urged residents to review their safety plans so they can act quickly during new tornado warnings (immediate action may be lifesaving). Residents are advised to check their plans before the next storm arrives.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • Monday night, Vancleave softball defeated North Pike 3-0 in a rubber match to secure a Round Two playoff spot. The team will play at Sumrall high school on Thursday.  WXXV 25
  • D’Iberville Lady Warriors won 6 to 0 over the Brandon Bulldogs in a Class 7A Playoffs game and advanced to round two. They will play Northwest Rankin next plus sophomore pitcher Londyn Ford played a key role.  WXXV 25
  • USM head baseball coach Christian Ostrander recapped the weekend series win over South Alabama and outlined plans for the rest of the season, while USM Softball pitcher Kayla Giardina described her perfect game against South Alabama.   • Friday morning at the Our Lady Academy gym, standout volleyball players Myah Favre and Reagan Krebs signed to play collegiately as Favre joins Jones College and Krebs becomes part of Copiah-Lincoln Community College's first-ever volleyball team.  WXXV 25
