  • United Way of South Mississippi is hosting the Dragon Boat Festival at Harrah’s Gulf Coast Great Lawn beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, with all proceeds benefiting early childhood education + literacy, healthcare, and financial stability.  WXXV 25

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Asia Ellis reported live from the grand opening of the Chick-fil-A on Bienville Blvd. in Ocean Springs where community members enjoyed a Move-In Day Party with free meals for those in cow costumes as the new restaurant begins normal business hours.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Walter Anderson Museum of Art invites local artists to join its program at Traveler Café, where they will exhibit, sell work, and lead workshops (+ details by Katy Simmons-Carroll +).  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gulfport High School’s Team Fusion 364 earned an invitation to the First Robotics World Championship in Houston after competing in three regionals – the team will showcase its engineering and strategy skills against over 500 teams.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Biloxi city council met Tuesday to review a beautification plan that would boost public spaces and coastal landmarks near the Lighthouse — officials proposed naming an area Fred Haise Landing to honor the native NASA astronaut, with community input to guide progress.  WXXV 25

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Goldie, the Pet of the Week from the Humane Society of South Mississippi, has been adopted after a lively debut on Wednesday. The pet enjoyed playing with her toy bone in the study before finding a forever home.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. Patrick Catholic celebrated three athletes advancing to college sports as Sofie Humer, a state champion golfer, will join Christian Brothers University, Samantha Johnson will sign with Pearl River Community College, and Keller Broussard, +the school's first male cheerleader+, earns a cheer scholarship at Houston Christian.  WXXV 25
  • d'Iberville’s Kaelyn 'KK' McKenzie was named WXXV Student Athlete of the Week after she won four regional track titles last week + she signed with the University of South Alabama to continue her track career.  WXXV 25
  • The Gulf Coast Skateparks Association is hosting a free youth skate clinic this Saturday at noon at Biloxi DIY Park on Hopkins Boulevard. Youth (15 and younger) must wear helmets, and parents must stay with their children.  WXXV 25
