COMMUNITY NEWS

  • North Bay Civitan Club invites local businesses to join My Abilities Job Fair to connect job seekers with intellectual or developmental disabilities to new career opportunities. The fair runs this weekend at D’Iberville Community Center (10-noon) with free booth registration.  WXXV 25
  • Back Bay Mission is recruiting local volunteers for the Health and Resource Fair on April 29 to help with parking, registration and general needs. Shifts last about an hour and a half (volunteers must use vendor parking on the day of the event).  WXXV 25
  • Pass Christian High School is hosting Pass Christian Night, a special community event featuring the Biloxi Shuckers at Keesler Federal Park today at 6 p.m.; students, faculty, & family are invited as Daelyn Wilkenson & Jaylin Bryan join the festivities.  WXXV 25

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Construction is underway on Biloxi's future Chick-Fil-A at the corner of Pass and Nelson Roads near Rouses. City Councilman Paul Tisdale shared photos of the preliminary earthwork, though the project has faced delays after historic trees were removed.  WXXV 25

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Amtrak Mardi Gras Service is nearing its 100,000th passenger milestone since launching last August and averaging about 400 riders daily. The train connects New Orleans, Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Pascagoula with more growth expected this spring and summer — boosting local tourism and economic opportunities.  Gazebo Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • OLLI at Gulf Park Campus saw its largest membership growth after opening a new dedicated space last September — the program now serves 276 members and offers classes, seminars and social events for adults 50 and older.  Gazebo Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mississippi officials are maintaining strict rules to slow the spread of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in deer. MDWFP’s targeted zones ban supplemental feeding and transport of high-risk carcass parts, and a full review of the plan is scheduled for later in 2026 to reflect new science.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • On Earth Day the 15th annual Deer Island Cleanup saw over 150 volunteers from a local casino industry join to remove debris on Deer Island (a key coastal natural area). Their work helped protect the island for future generations.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport officials announced a plan to extend the secondary runway by over 1,000 feet to allow larger planes and provide an alternative for unscheduled maintenance; bidding will open mid May and construction is expected to take about 24 months with no travel delays.  WXXV 25

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new report by the American Lung Association shows that 65,296 kids in Mississippi are breathing unhealthy air (from 2022 to 2024) with elevated ozone and particle pollution in several counties, prompting calls for state officials to improve clean air measures.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

  • Mississippi college stars line up as the NFL Draft kicks off tonight at 7 p.m. CT at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium.
