  • South Mississippians will gather at Jones Park on May 7 for the National Day of Prayer—Gwendale White explains how locals can participate.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Moss Point native Daniel Stallworth advanced to the Top 7 on American Idol after a praised Disney Night performance on Monday, Jan. 26—impressing judges with his vocal talent. The show will resume on Monday, April 27 with a Taylor Swift theme.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • The Pass Christian Historical Society will host the 2026 Tour of Homes on Sunday, May 3 from 2 to 5 p.m. Locals can tour four historic homes and visit the Society for tea and local history while tickets are available at $35 in advance and $40 on the day.  Gazebo Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Martin High School Principal Shea Scarborough addressed a call Monday that spread threat rumors by saying the school is in constant contact with Jackson County Sheriff's Department and found no evidence of a threat (community members should check directly if they hear any rumors).  WXXV 25

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Monday marked the 16th anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, a disaster that sent millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf and affected marine life, coastal areas and local livelihoods. Recovery efforts — led by research teams — continue to protect the fragile ecosystem.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mississippi Department of Transportation launched Work Zone Awareness Week on Monday, reminding drivers to slow down and follow posted signs in active construction areas. MDOT advises moving into open lanes early and staying alert to keep both drivers and workers safe.  WXXV 25
