EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Southern Mississippi starts its 78th Summer Field Program at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory to give students hands-on coastal research experience. The program offers two sessions — one from May 27 to June 25 and one from June 26 to July 30 — and students must apply by May 1.  Gazebo Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced on April 18 that starting May 1 at 12:01 a.m. shrimping will be closed in all waters south of the Intracoastal Waterway and west of the Gulfport Ship Channel, while waters east of the channel will remain open as required by state rules — all shrimp boats must carry a valid license.  Gazebo Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday, April 18, the Pass Christian boys baseball team defeated Mendenhall 12-1 while the Lady Pirates softball team won 5-4 on a walk-off at Philip Terrell Complex—both teams advanced in the MHSAA playoffs. Pass Christian will host the Lawrence County Cougars on April 24 at 6 p.m.—the next round game is set to follow these wins.  Gazebo Gazette
