  • Gulfport Biloxi International Airport welcomed nearly two dozen female veterans Wednesday afternoon as they returned from a trip to Washington, D.C. Community members, city leaders, and students cheered the landing (with a water salute) in honor of their service.  WXXV 25
  • CASA of South Mississippi hosted its annual Light of Hope event at Stone County Courthouse during National Child Abuse Prevention Month to support foster children and honor volunteers from Hancock, Harrison and Stone counties.  WXXV 25
  • Beloved local community leader Karen Sock, who had key roles at the former Grand Casino & Margaritaville and founded local enterprises like Pathways2Possibilites, died at 73; tributes continue to honor her lasting impact in South Mississippi.  WXXV 25

  • Greenpal is now live in Biloxi & Gulfport, connecting residents with local, pre-screened lawn care pros for same-day or next-day service. The app lets users list lawns, receive competitive bids, and book appointments with vetted professionals.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mississippi lawmakers have moved to require high schools to offer driver education with 24 classroom hours and 6 hours behind-the-wheel training starting in July, while a separate bill makes financial literacy a middle school subject in 2026-27 and a high school graduation requirement by 2031.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The IRS announced a tax filing extension for Mississippi taxpayers affected by a winter storm + tax returns due on or after Jan. 23 now have until June 8 in all 82 counties.  WXXV 25

HEALTH NEWS

  • Singing River Health System now offers aquablation therapy as the first in the state to use this minimally invasive procedure. The hospital uses a new hydros robotic system to help patients with symptoms like frequent urination or weak flow.  WXXV 25

  • Mississippi formally recognized top college basketball players as Josh Hubbard won the Howell Trophy three times at Mississippi State and Cotie McMahon earned the Gillom Trophy two days after her Washington Mystics draft selection + Ole Miss beat Tennessee 94-81 on Feb. 17.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
