ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A truck drove off the Pascagoula River Bridge Monday night in Jackson County and caused major delays as rescue crews found the truck driver with minor injuries and another vehicle’s driver with serious injuries—Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.  WXXV 25

BUSINESS NEWS

  • State officials announced that Mississippi’s first Buc-ee’s in Pass Christian will open on June 9. The 74,000-square-foot travel center will offer 120 fueling positions, 24 EV charging stations—a car wash—and recently held a job fair for over 200 positions as roadwork upgrades along Interstate 10 progress.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • Styx will perform two shows at the IP Casino on April 11 and April 12 at the Mississippi Gulf Coast—offering classic hits and select songs from Crash of The Crown. Nearly sold-out concerts continue an annual tradition—fueling the band’s future plans.  Gazebo Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jackson Meeks, a Biloxi native and D’Iberville High graduate, will graduate this spring from Southern Miss and begin studies in medicine at UMMC this fall—his plans were sparked by a high school soccer injury and built on a background in cybersecurity.  Gazebo Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies is hosting a turtle release on Biloxi Beach today at 11 AM across from Edgewater Mall—attendees will watch the sea turtle head back to the Mississippi Sound while those who miss it can view the event live on Facebook.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mississippi Lottery announced today that in March over $10 million was transferred to the state, bringing the fiscal year total to just over $85 million with $80 million earmarked for roads and bridges. Following March, $5.2 million will go to the Education Enhancement Fund to support supplies, education grants, and other initiatives through June.  WXXV 25
  • Sen. Nicole Akins Boyd expressed frustration after her proposed legislation to extend child support for parents of adults with developmental disabilities died in the House, leaving families to shoulder financial burdens when their children turn 21—an approach that would have let courts set support based on medical testimony. Lawmakers are expected to reconvene for a special session, but it is unclear if Gov. Tate Reeves will bring the bill back for debate.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • Mississippi’s governor may sign a bill that makes grooming a child a felony when an adult 21 and older uses any means to lure someone under 16 into sexual acts—if signed, the law will take effect on July 1 with stiffer penalties for those in trusted roles.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
