CRIME NEWS

  • On March 31 a home invasion took place on Cypress Bayou Drive in Gulfport—two unknown individuals with a machete attacked a resident in his driveway, tied him and his wife up, stole cash, jewelry, and a black 2018 Dodge Charger, and the victim later received treatment at a local hospital in stable condition.  Gazebo Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report from the U.S. Department of Commerce showed Mississippi ranked second in real GDP growth for 2024 with a 4.2% increase that added $1.27 billion to the state’s economy — agriculture and manufacturing sectors drove much of the boost.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Mississippi Aquarium will release seven rehabilitated turtles on Thursday at 4 p.m. from the beach in front of Edgewater Mall and officials will be on site to provide details and answer questions.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leaders with Mississippi Veterans Affairs have put the final touches on a $60 million, 133,000 square foot veterans home on Tradition Parkway that will soon house up to 100 veterans. The VA secretary is expected to attend the April 11 ribbon cutting — about 20 veterans will move in later this summer as the home fills gradually.  WXXV 25
  • The City of Biloxi is preparing a traffic plan for Spring Break from April 10th through April 13th to manage heavy traffic along Highway 90. Biloxi Police will use cone barriers and reserve lanes for emergency vehicles as scheduled events are set to draw thousands to the beaches.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Milwaukee Brewers and Biloxi Shuckers announced the team’s initial roster for their 10th season and set an exhibition for April 2—6:35 p.m.—a road opener on April 4 and a home game on April 8. The roster features top prospect Cooper Pratt and four other Brewers Top-30 prospects along with experienced players returning for the season.  Gazebo Gazette
  • Both Ole Miss and Southern Miss baseball stayed in the D1Baseball Top 25 for the sixth week, with Ole Miss moving to No. 9 after a home series win over Florida and Southern Miss holding No. 13 after a loss to Nicholls and wins at South Alabama. Ole Miss plays Jackson State in Oxford today before a four-game road swing, while Southern Miss will host Tulane in a midweek rivalry game ahead of a road series at Marshall.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
