COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Gulf Coast Fair kicks off today at 5 p.m. at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and will run until April 4; it features a giant circus tent with trapeze performances and classic fair rides, with tickets priced at $30 at the door.  WXXV 25
  • The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies is hosting a turtle release—six turtles will be set free today at the beach across from Edgewater Mall from 9:30 a.m., including three tracked with satellite transmitters, and the event is streamed live on Facebook.  WXXV 25
  • Elijah’s Closet, a nonprofit, will open a thrift store on Saturday, Apr. 11 at 2496 Pass Road, Biloxi. The grand opening ceremony will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  WXXV 25
  • On Tuesday, Beau Rivage employees joined the Swing for MGM Golf Tournament at Fallen Oak Golf Course and donated $320 per team to support local charity through the MGM Resorts Foundation. The event highlighted community teamwork under clear skies.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Island View Casino Resort hosted its inaugural Hot Rod Car Show on Saturday, March 21 at its Gulfport location — drawing 247 cars, with extra vehicles allowed in for a Louisiana children's charity.  Gazebo Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College — known for its 17-year support of military families — has earned the 2026-2027 Military Friendly School Gold Designation and a top ten honor for military spouse friendliness on the Coast.  WXXV 25
  • The Harrison County School District will host a hiring event on Saturday, Mar. 28 in Gulfport from 9 a.m. to noon, where job seekers can learn about openings, benefits, and growth opportunities for the upcoming school year.  WXXV 25

HEALTH NEWS

  • USA Health’s Gulf Coast Trauma Symposium ended Wednesday at the Golden Nugget — local healthcare providers learned new techniques to care for critically injured patients.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • Harrison Central’s Zahkarri McGlothin tied the state record in the long jump on March 19 at Biloxi’s Indian Invite Meet, registering a leap of 25 feet 10 inches. The senior aims to break the national record soon & hopes for an Olympic berth before graduating.  WXXV 25
  • Harrison Central beat the Biloxi Indians 4–3 in game one of their three-game regional series in Biloxi. Game two is set for Friday night at Harrison Central — a key matchup in the series.  WXXV 25
  • Pass Christian High School Tennis hosted its first annual Pickleball Tournament that brought together more than 40 teams for friendly competition and fundraising. Coach Samantha Pierce said the event built community spirit and spurred plans for a second tournament as early as this fall.  Gazebo Gazette
  • The top-ranked PRCC Wildcats hosted MGCCC on Tuesday afternoon at Pearl River Community College, winning game one 1-0 and game two 4-3 while Ann Elise Duncan pitched a complete game shutout to secure the doubleheader sweep.  WXXV 25
  • Tate Murphy of St. Stanislaus Baseball was named WXXV’s Student Athlete of the Week after an 8-for-8 streak raised his average to .549. Murphy has helped lead his team to a 4-0 district record in class 3A Region 8 and is committed to playing for Pearl River Community College.  WXXV 25
