COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office will host a free youth fishing rodeo at Sheriff’s County Farm on Saturday, March 28 with check-in from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and fishing from 9 a.m. to noon (participants can bring or borrow gear).  WXXV 25
  • Two Men and a Truck is launching its Movers for Moms donation drive to help mothers improve their lives and families. Collections will begin April 1 as detailed by Emily Sham.  WXXV 25

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mississippi Power will begin replacing wooden poles with concrete ones along Highway 90 in Ocean Springs this week to boost system reliability. Crews will work under traffic control measures to keep drivers safe + reduce delays.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Art in the Pass returns April 11 — 12 in War Memorial Park in Pass Christian with around 100 artists showcasing fine arts, live music, food vendors and a student art show with scholarship winners announced at 2:30 p.m. on April 12; admission is free and proceeds support art education.  Gazebo Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today at 4 p.m., Mississippi Aquarium will release 28 rehabilitated Kemps Ridley sea turtles in front of Edgewater Mall — sponsors can enjoy a special viewing area and keepsake after the event.  WXXV 25

FINANCE NEWS

  • Keesler Federal Credit Union launched its Paycheck Relief program for TSA employees missing pay since the February shutdown+ Officials provided the relief service at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport and plan to extend it to other airports soon.  Gazebo Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NASA engineers from Stennis completed baseline explosion tests at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida to gather data for safe methane-propelled rockets, and they will conduct larger tests in March and June using varying propellant weights to set new safety protocols.  Gazebo Gazette
  • The Mississippi Department of Public Safety transferred 1960s KKK artifacts to the Department of Archives and History as it prepared for a new headquarters. The archives department will process the items (including regalia and documents) for future digital access.  WXXV 25

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Mississippi State Department of Health is offering a six-month supply of free prenatal vitamins at county health departments that provide nursing services to pregnant women. The program is part of the (Saving the Smallest) campaign that aims to reduce preterm births and support healthier pregnancies.  Gazebo Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gulfport high school powerlifting teams will defend their State Championship titles at the Mississippi Coliseum as the girls compete Friday and the boys compete Saturday, one bus ride from Jackson before chasing a fifth consecutive win.
