  • The 2025 Nissan Frontier won the Mississippi Makers’ Challenge sponsored by Hancock Whitney after receiving 42 percent of the vote and beating products from Lockheed Martin and PACCAR. Nissan representatives accepted the award at the Mississippi State Capitol this morning — Governor Tate Reeves praised the win for highlighting Mississippi manufacturing.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Walter Anderson Museum of Art in Ocean Springs will screen the documentary Eudora on March 29 at 2 p.m. and hold panel discussions afterward to explore the creative legacies of Eudora Welty — the event is free and visitors can also purchase signed books.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

  • A Gulf Coast probate lawyer with nearly 10 years of experience explained that few estate plans include arrangements for pet care—leaving animals at risk when owners cannot care for them, and she now offers emergency contact cards to help ensure pets are fed and looked after during a crisis. SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, girls flag football players gathered at the Saints practice facility for their first jersey reveal and media day, where teams from East Central, George County, Picayune, St. Martin, Vancleave (and seven other schools) received their official flags and swag ahead of their season. The teams will compete in a five-week season that begins Thursday, March 27th at Picayune high school.  WXXV 25
  • Pass Christian student Samuel King won the National Championship in shot put at the Adidas Track National Competition in Virginia Beach this weekend. He broke state and school records for shot put and discus last month and now looks forward to more success in track and field.  WXXV 25
  • Over the weekend, volleyball teams gathered at the Mississippi Coast Convention Center in Biloxi for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Open—264 teams competed in a two-day tournament that featured a college recruiting showcase.  WXXV 25
  • The Biloxi Shuckers announced that their Junior Broadcaster Program will continue for the 2025 season, allowing young broadcasters aged 12 to 16 to join Javik Blake in the booth during three Sunday home games (April 27 against the Montgomery Biscuits at 1:05 p.m., May 25 against the Knoxville Smokies at 5:05 p.m., and June 8 against Montgomery at 5:05 p.m.). Participants will get media credentials, a prize pack, and a chance to join the broadcast after submitting an essay, audition tape, and contact information.  WXXV 25
  • Gulfport running back Cooper Crosby was named a U.S. Army All-American after he set a 4.39 laser record at a combine in Jackson on Saturday + he ended his season with 1,032 rushing yards, 278 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns and will play in the Military Appreciation Bowl in December in Frisco, Texas.  WXXV 25
