COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over the past week and a half, Special Olympians representing Areas 3 and 12 competed in track and field events in Gulfport and Moss Point—part of the monthly Special Olympics Mississippi games. The events drew support from local athletes, organizers and volunteers.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Legendary Mississippi bluesman Bobby Rush, at 91, is debuting his new album Young Fashioned Ways after previewing songs at a Biloxi concert with 45-year-old blues and rock musician Kenny Wade Shepherd. The full album will be released on March 21 and the duo will start a nationwide tour this summer — bringing new energy to the blues scene.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NASA honored two Stennis Space Center employees — Melissa Wagner from Pass Christian and Samone Wilson from Hattiesburg — on March 10 in Orlando for their work in advancing human spaceflight. They received the prestigious Honoree Award and later toured Kennedy Space Center to view the SpaceX Dragon Endurance before the crew-10 launch.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • Mississippi residents planning to cast an absentee ballot ahead of the April 1 municipal primary elections can vote in-person at local clerk offices on Saturday, March 22 and Saturday, March 29 from 8 a.m. to noon or on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—ballots mailed must be postmarked by April 1.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • The Mississippi Department of Transportation said the Highway 49 and 53 expansion project will widen the road from four lanes to six lanes between School Road and O’Neal Road and add a new intersection to ease left turns—an effort expected to improve traffic flow. The project was approved by the legislature and is expected to be completed in 2026.  WXXV 25
  • After severe weather hit, Gov. Tate Reeves declared Flood Insurance Awareness Week from March 16-22 to remind residents to consider buying flood insurance since regular home policies do not cover floods. Officials say over one million properties remain uninsured+ and note that policies take 30 days to activate, urging residents to prepare for future flooding.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

  • Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi is offering a March Madness betting experience via its partnership with Bet MGM as fans from across the Gulf South place wagers at both counters and kiosks.
